West Plains wrestling state qualifiers are headed to compete in the state tournament and set the standard for Wolfpack wrestlers. The tournament is set to begin on Friday, February 16 and continue through Saturday, February 17. West Plains High School’s determined wrestling team and coaching staff has made it clear that state is the standard for the program and they hope to continue the legacy with incoming high school wrestlers. The 2024 state qualifiers are Keygan Grubb (12), MacKlin Houser (12), Quentin Elam (12), and Shane Ledford (11).
“It’s all a mindset,” said Houser. “You have to believe that you worked harder than the guy across from you.” It is clear Houser sees the importance in having a strong mindset and believing in himself before his matches. Senior Shane Ledford stated that he is especially excited about state because of “the adversity of new competition, the best of the best.”
“Being a two-time state qualifier feels amazing,” said Grubb. “I’m excited to be able to go back for my senior year and get to finish off the year with a strong finish.” Grubb has worked day in and day out with her teammates to improve her and her team’s skills.
Each wrestler this season has proven themselves during the 2023-2024 wrestling season. Endless drive, motivation, and commitment to do and be better set the standard and motivate the younger generation of wrestlers. The sport is tough work and dedication makes each athlete reach their potential when they are undoubtedly willing to put in the work for it.
